Heritage Preservation (USA), in partnership with the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA), undertook a continuing education project that addressed the roles and responsibilities of state, territorial and tribal libraries, archives, museums, and emergency managers in protecting cultural heritage in the face of major disasters. I worked with leadership to plan for and facilitate a series of three forums that engaged 22 states - their state libraries, archives, museums, historic preservation offices, and emergency management agencies - to explore the role that state cultural agencies should play in conjunction with their State Emergency Management Agency in protecting cultural and historic resources following a disaster.
